Adrenal glands - stress with the hormones

June 23, 2020
Dr. Dorothee Bös et al.

The adrenal glands play a significant role in processing stimuli that act on our body. Their task is to provide stress hormones.

Interaction between adrenal glands and nervous system

The release of stress hormones is controlled by the central nervous system (hypothalamus and pituitary gland) and the peripheral autonomic nervous system (sympathetic nervous system). Together, the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and adrenal cortex form an axis that derails during chronic stress.

How does adrenal overload occur?

Among other things, diet, environmental toxins, medications, lack of sleep, chronic infections, and allergies can stress the body and disrupt hormonal balance. Physical exercise can be both cause and therapy for adrenal overload: Exercise is necessary to reduce stress hormones, but it should correspond to the body’s training status.

Diseases of the adrenal glands

Adrenal gland disorders include the production of too much cortisol (hypercortisolism) or too little cortisol (hypocortisolism). They lead, for example, to obesity and, in the long term, to diabetes. Other consequences can include increased sensitivity to pain, burn-out and depression. The adrenal glands also influence other endocrine glands. Malfunction can have effects on the pancreas and thyroid gland. Learn more about the function of the adrenal gland, its diseases and the use of medicinal mushrooms for their natural therapy now!

Natural therapy of hormonal disorders

Chronic stress causes the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis to derail. Initially, this occurs with an increase and later with a decrease in stress hormones. This is where medicinal mushrooms can be particularly effective. They have a balancing effect on the nervous system, regulate hormone release and hormone breakdown. The vital mushroom cordyceps, for example, contains an enzyme that prevents the breakdown of serotonin and dopamine. Thus, it has a positive effect on the psyche.
